Why Use Solar Energy

Solar Hot Water Systems

Apart from Solar Technology, we also provide Hot Water solutions. We have a comprehensive range of heat pump systems that are suited for various needs. These include systems that are solar, gas and electric boosted. You’ll also be pleased to know that our tanks are fitted on the ground, not on the roof. After all, everyone wants to look good when going green.

A solar hot water system can significantly reduce fossil fuel energy use and consequent pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Not only will you be helping the environment, you will also save on your energy costs.

How Solar Hot Water Systems Work

Heat Pumps

Green Solar Energy utilises a heat pump system to deliver steaming hot water. Working like a reverse cycle air conditioner, the solar hot water system extracts heat from ambient air and uses it to heat water.

Heat pumps have significantly lower operating costs than conventional storage water heaters because they move heat from one place to another rather than generating heat directly. Even during periods of below freezing conditions, there is plenty of heat available in the air to generate hot water.

Solar Electric/Gas Boosted
Solar collectors are installed on the roof but the tank is installed on the ground which makes your house look a lot better. Solar hot water with a correctly sized tank will supply most of your hot water but during periods of reduced sunlight activity such as cloudy or rainy days you can use a electric or gas booster to deliver steaming hot water whenever you need it.

Solar Hot Water Rebates

The Australian Government is helping Australian households install climate friendly solar hot water systems. Solar rebates of $1000 are available in eligible circumstances to install solar and heat pump hot water systems to replace electric storage hot water systems in existing privately owned homes.

The solar rebate is offered for solar hot water systems installed on, or after 18 July 2007 until March 2012, subject to the availability of funds.

This measure will mean households can save money and help fight global warming. Water heating is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions from the average Australian home, accounting for around 28 per cent of home energy use (excluding the family car).

Installing a climate friendly hot water system can save a family $300 to $700 off electricity bills each year.

Renewable Energy Certificates
Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) is another source of funding for those who choose to install either a solar hot water or solar power system. The general rule that applies is, the bigger the installation the bigger the REC.

One REC symbolises 1MWh of electricity sourced from renewable energy. In this case, the sun. This generally represents one tonne of abated greenhouse gas. In other words, one REC is like a "carbon credit".

The REC amount is taken off the invoice price whenever we install a solar hot water or grid-connect solar power system. And its value changes on a daily basis. Over the last few years, it has been anywhere between $6 and $36 for one REC.

Eligibility
Full details of eligibility are provided in the guidelines in the Applicant Information Booklet. Key criteria are listed below.

Eligible systems

To be eligible for the solar rebate, a solar hot water system must:

•replace an electric storage hot water system
•be purchased and installed on, or after 18 July 2007
•be a solar or heat pump hot water system that is eligible for at least 20 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) at the time and place of installation
•be installed by a suitably qualified person (for example an electrician or plumber).
Eligible households

•The dwelling where the hot water system is installed must be a principal place of residence.
•The applicant's taxable family income must have been less than $100,000 in the most recent tax year as lodged with the Australian Taxation Office.

We can put the relevant documents in order to help you get the rebates and incentives from the federal and state governments.
